After seasons of flashy, over-calculated, large ‘it’ bags it comes as no surprise that this season has produced an influx of simple and ‘classic’ designs. The trend sent down the catwalk by Phoebe Philo at Céline, where models were dressed in understated nude garments with simple accessories, a far cry from the flashy reptile ‘bling-bags’ sported by WAGs.

Of course throughout the course of fashion history toned down bags have been omnipresent, for example Hermes’ ‘Constance’ bag, a small across-the-body bag with a simple ‘H’ buckle and of course the coveted Kelly bag, of which the original is currently at the V&A in the exhibition Grace Kelly: Style Icon.
