Launched in January of this year, the Emerging Talent Awards aim to give a platform to new UK musicians trying to get their big break. Winners in each of the eight categories will be awarded a live slot at Gaymers Camden Crawl on either 1st or 2nd May 2010 and presented with prizes, including cash expenses, a case of Gaymers Cider and the trophy itself. Not to mention invaluable public exposure. Award categories include: Best New Band, Best New Solo Artist, Best Live Act, Best Song, DIY Award, Best Visual Impact, Innovation Award and People’s Choice Award. The winners will be announced around 3 weeks prior to the Gaymers Camden Crawl. There are 45 finalist bands, and up for ‘Best New Band’ is Espionage of the Loc, who we raved about in our post ‘Why Aye Man!’ a while back. The voting page describes the boys as ‘Masters of the catchy pop song, borne out of the usual youthful stresses – unrequited love, shit jobs, and wishing you were someone-else-somewhere-else.’ We’ve all been voting here, and think maybe our prediction of their success could be about to come true!
