Lady Gaga always comes dressed to impress or in most cases to shock us all and this year’s Brit Awards gave her a perfect excuse to raid her costume wardrobe and come up with something spectacular. She went down the red carpet in a white tiered gown, lace mask and a huge beehive that gave even Amy Winehouse a run for her money. She performed in an overwhelmingly revealing sheer bodysuit with lace detail, just hope for her sake that the heating was on as she picked up her awards for International female, International breakthrough act and Best International Album.
Lily what were you thinking?
Lily Allen was another celeb who decided to go against the advice of a sane stylist and turned up in a floor length gothic gown, which resemble a dustbin bag decorated with sequins. Despite her unofficial award for worst dressed celeb, Lily won the British Female award and just in case no one noticed her on the red carpet she decided to wear an orange wig to accept her award. She did save herself slightly by performing in a sexy black corseted playsuit complete with fishnet tights and lace sleeves. Lily is standing by her plans to retire however I’ve heard the same story from Jay Z and he continues to produce albums year after year (not that I’m complaining of course).
Especially when he creates such gems as Empire state of mind, which he performed with Alicia Keys and picked up the award for Best International Male Solo Artist.
The other male stars of the night were none other than JLS who took home two awards, Best British breakthrough act and Best British Single, not bad for X Factor losers. They descended on the crowd making a dramatic entrance, looking sexier than ever in leather outfits.
We got the love?
The stage lit up with glitter and lots of love when Florence Welch and Dizzee Rascal did a mash up of ‘You Got the Love’ and ‘Dirty Cash’. The flame haired diva came out of a glitter ball, sang her heart out and we defiantly got the love. Both acts picked up awards with Dizzee beating the likes of Calvin Harris and Robbie Williams for the British Male Solo award, he responded “About time as well”. Don’t worry Dizzee we see the talent and congrats.
The surprise of the night was the Spice Girls winning an award for the Best Brits Performance of the past 30 years, for their Wannabe act in 1997. With only two Spice Girls attending none of which were Posh, it would seem a bit trivial; however Mel B and Geri did look rather nice in their white ensembles.
But the true trooper of the night was Cheryl Cole because despite the fact that her marriage to footballer Ashley Cole is in tatters she still got up on that stage and performed her angry little heart out. Even though she’s singing about fighting for love there’s so much fighting a person can take before they realise they’re fighting a brick wall.
