The Spring Summer 2010 catwalks were loaded with flirty lingerie inspired looks, various designers used fabrics remniscent of underwear such as silk and lace to create luxurious and delicate outfits. The designers varied their interpretation of this trend – Christian Dior sent models down the runway in sublime underwear sets simply covered by a light layer of lace edged chiffon, whereas Yves Saint Laurent and Bottega Veneta used the basic outlines of the tailoring, structure or fabrics of brassieres and corsets to create structured dresses and tops. Below are examples from the ss10 runway collection of Antonio Berardi and Fendi
When attempting the ‘underwear as outwear’ look this spring, try to avoid reds and blacks, focus more on softer colours such as neutrals and pastels to create a more romantic style, making it appropriate for spring and less vampy than underwear inspired looks can run the risk of appearing. Depending on the weather (or how confident you are feeling!) you can always layer on a blazer or fine knit cardigan to soften the look even further.
