The Future’s Bright, the Future’s Big?

Since Mark Fast had plus – size models come down the runway with skinny models in his SS10 show, there has been a huge focus on plus – size models or models that do not fit the conventional skinny model size. Lara Stone, curvy with 32 D breasts, was named model of the year 2009, fronted many campaigns and appeared on many magazine covers. Then came Karl Lagerfeld’s controversial comments, in response to a decision by a German Magazine to not feature any thin models. He said that no one wanted to see curvy women on the runway, and that those who criticized skinny models were fat chip – eating mummies. In addition, former skinny – turned – plus – size model, Crystal Renn, then released a memoir, Hungry: A Young Model’s Story of Appetite, Ambition and the Ultimate Embrace of Curves, about her struggle to be a skinny model and how she is much happier and her career has blossomed since she started eating. And this movement is simply not dying. It seems that the future is certainly big, as V Magazine release their Size Issue dedicated to curvy women. Ironically Karl Lagefeld has contributed to this issue. It is available from newsstands from January 14th 2010 (that’s tomorrow) but if you can’t wait check out the preview by following this link:
