Coco Chanel once famously said “When accessorizing, always take off the last thing you put on” – proof that when putting an ensemble together, it is possible ruin a look by over-doing the jewellery a tad (although Ms Chanel was often a fan of over-doing it herself, as the picture above demonstrates!) Far simpler, then, to let your clothes do the accessorizing for you!
For example, we love Kelly Rowland’s look in the video for ‘When Love Takes Over’ with David Guetta, where she sports a black vest with chain detail. The sexily embellished garment means that clever Kelly only has to worry about what choice of earrings to wear (and picks out some that wonderfully match her chain top!) We reckon that Kelly would love this similar fringed top from our very own Mags and Pye label (on the left) if she wanted to do a more casual, mono-chrome look.
If you’re wanting to go for something a bit more romantic, then look no further than this Mags and Pye ‘Pearly’ top (which is also available in Black) We love how Roz P, over on LookBook, has teamed a similar top with some shimmery leggings in her look ‘Feeling Glittery‘ – that space-age feel means it’s definitely romance with a twist!
Audrey Hepburn’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s character, Holly Golightly, knew the importance of a good piece of jewellery. She did say, however, “Of course, personally, I think it’d be tacky to wear diamonds before I’m 40″… which meant that free spirit Holly would pile on the pearls instead. If your life sometimes resembles Ms Golightly’s, then you might like To Love Kuvaa’s ‘Trixie’ dress. With ‘Trixie’ you need never worry about making an early morning trip to that infamous jewellery store to pick up a string or two of pearls before your trip to Sing Sing, since they are already firmly attached to the frock itself!
And speaking of pearls, why not go for a little trompe l’oeil a la this Pearly Queen (above left) on LookBook with a whole collar made of pearls? It’s a trick that’s been about for a while, as this vintage pic of a pearly crochet collar (above left) demonstrates, but when Paul Smith does it (above right) it looks bang up to date. Get this look with a To Love Kuvaa ‘Eva’ dress (centre) and you’ll be wondering what you ever saw in a simple single string of pearls!
All FashAddict clothes featured will be available soon from our online store, so stay tuned!
