Sorry gals, but it looks like summer is officially over. For a little while there, we were running about in flirty floral dresses and getting stipey sunburn on our feet thanks to our gladiator sandals. But with the latest weather being a complete washout, and all our favourite glossies drooling over our upcoming A/W09 wardrobes, it’s time to admit defeat. Summer’s over.
But that doesn’t mean we have to discard everything that was delicious and desirable about our Summer attire! Take that old Summer favourite, the floral print, for example. You’d think there would be no room for it in our wintry wardrobe… and it is true that as we are coming into the new season, fashion is getting a whole lot scarier. It’s all about looking fierce, with scary shoulders and studs abound. But here at FashAddict, we love a challenge.
It’s time to re-interpret our flowery prints with a short, sharp injection of rock chic. As shown in the Street Style Remix above (made up of Sophie from TheStreetHearts, GirlCrush from GaranceDore and Leather Jacket Look by stylist Kristen O’Reilly and photographer G. Tjepkema) a few well placed studs and a little leather can work wonders in bringing your summer frock bang up to date. If your frock has a print with a black undertone it will also carry more easily into the darker months.
Here at FashAddict we are especially loving this gorgeous dress from our very own ‘Duke & Duchess’ label. With it’s chunky visible zip, dark print and studs at the pockets it ticks all the boxes for bad-ass girly. All you need to add is a battered leather jacket and some scary shoes (like these TopShop ones, below) and you’re good to go.
The great thing about this look is it perfectly spans that difficult ‘tween’ time between Summer and Autumn. All you need to negotiate the erratic weather is a pair of black opaque tights… pop them on when it’s chilly, leave ’em off when the scorching sun comes out again. Well, a girl can dream!
If you are in need of any more inspiration on how to rock the look, then take a trip over to Look Book where the stylistas over there can show you how it’s done!
