One for all you sneaker freaks, Nike 78 is a new project created to merge cutting edge design talent and the trusty Nike trainer. The 78 refers to the 78 creatives who will each be sent a new pair of Nikes and, using sport as inspiration, will challenge their traditional function and create weird and wonderful new interpretations of the footwear. The progress of these inspired ventures can be tracked at nike78.co.uk and will eventually be collated into an exhibition to feature in the London Design Festival in September.
Highlights include Erica Dorn’s mouth-watering Marathon Cake which is the exact negative calorific value of a marathon; all shaped beautifully into a trainer with pink laces to boot and Fred Butler and Chrissie Abbott’s Lets Get This Shoe On The Road remote control car Nikes.
